Orto dei frati
Discover the area

Between past and present
The convent included an enclosed garden, characterized by a beautiful wall “four arms” high, with 209 slots to support a pergola, inside which were two splendid chapels, decorated with paintings attributed to the artist Pier Dandini (1678). Among the painted scenes depicting the Miracles of Saint Peter of Alcántara, are “Christ giving communion to St. Peter of Alcántara” and “the death of Saint Peter of Alcántara.” In the center of the garden, the “bindolo” is still visible, used to draw water from the well with animal power.
The garden of the Alcantarine fathers at Ambrogiana, where the two chapels are located, is now a public green area. They are therefore freely accessible, although protected by a gate.
