Explore Montelupo
How much time do you have?
3 hours
Take a few hours to discover our small town rich in history and culture.
Exit the station and within 200 meters you’ll find our Ceramic Museum waiting for you (with ample parking for those arriving by car). Enjoy a good coffee or aperitif at the café and treat yourself to a journey through unique artifacts and a piece of Medicean Tuscany history. Visiting the museum will take about 1 hour.
Little tip: remember to ask for a tour of the museum’s Furnace, an immersive experience included in the ticket! It will take you about 20 minutes.
If what you’ve seen has piqued your interest, we have the perfect itinerary: after the Museum, visit the Vittoriano Bitossi Archive, a hidden gem where the history of design merges with the lives of those who created unique ceramic pieces that are still trendy today. The visit will last about 45 minutes.
Important tip: as soon as you arrive at the Ceramic Museum, ask the desk to schedule a visit to the Bitossi Museum Archive for you. The latter is located within an operational factory, so at certain times, you can also appreciate the live work of turning artisans.
Prefer walking outdoors? Enjoy a nice stroll in the historic center to discover Montelupo’s site-specific works, stop by one of our shops, and enjoy a leisurely walk to the famous Medicean Villa in the beautiful Ambrogiana park. Breathe, savor the tranquility, and take some photos with the Arno River and the Frescobaldi tower in the background.

For lunch, you can find several places in the center; you might go to MMAB for a light lunch, to recharge and be ready for a museum visit with a final art workshop (but remember to book it).
After lunch, if you’re looking for an alternative to the Museum, you can visit the picturesque Parco dell’Abrogiana, a natural selfie station with scenic views. If you have time, you can extend your walk behind the Medicean Villa, where you’ll find the wonderful Archaeological Museum waiting for you.
