Baccio da Montelupo
The house of the sculptor and architect

In the upper part of Montelupo is the house where the Tuscan sculptor and architect Bartolomeo Sinibaldi, known as Baccio da Montelupo, was born and spent his youth in 1469.
The building, of medieval origin, is modest in size and still features typical medieval Tuscan architecture with terracotta arches, a predominantly brick facade, and terracotta decorations from the late 1800s. Bartolomeo di Giovanni d’Astore dei Sinibaldi was born in Montelupo and attended ceramic workshops here before moving to Florence to pursue a career as a sculptor. His masterpiece is the statue of Saint John the Evangelist from 1514, created for Orsanmichele in Florence. He possibly died in Lucca in 1523.
