The Friars' Garden
Discover the area

Between past and present
The convent used to include an enclosed garden, characterized by a beautiful wall that was “four arms” high, with 209 cracks to support a pergola; there, you would have found two beautiful chapels, decorated with paintings allegedly by the artist Pier Dandini (1678). Many of these paintings depict the famous Miracles of Saint Peter of Alcántara, like “Christ giving communion to St. Peter of Alcántara” and “the death of Saint Peter of Alcántara.” In the center of the garden, you can still see the “bindolo”, an animal-powered device that was used to draw water from the well.
The gardens of the Alcantarine fathers in the Ambrogiana area, where the two chapels are also located, are now a public green area. They are therefore freely accessible, although protected by a gate.
